Attorney General DeWine Announces Guilty Verdict in Lima Daycare Case

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today Nekosha T. James-Mitchell of Lima has been found guilty on 13 felony counts involving two Lima state-funded daycare operations she owned and operated. An Allen County jury reached the verdict Monday night after a five day trial.

Attorney General DeWine Announces Ohio, Other Pension Funds Will Seek Lead Plaintiff Status in JPMorgan Chase Shareholder Suit

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced that he has filed a motion for Ohio state pension funds to join certain other funds in leading a class of investors in a lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase & Co. The news comes as the bank announced that losses related to its “London Whale” trading scandal have already totaled at least $5.8 billion.

Attorney General DeWine Announces Total of 667 Internet Cafes Operating in Ohio; Renews Call for Regulation

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced that his office received 667 affidavits from owners of internet cafes. The affidavits were required as part of Am. Sub. H.B. 386 which put a moratorium on any new electronic sweepstakes parlors or internet cafés. All sweepstakes establishments in existence and operating prior to the effective date of the legislation, which was June 11, 2012, were required to complete an affidavit of existence.  The deadline to submit the affidavits to the Attorney General’s Office was July 11, 2012.

Attorney General DeWine Announces Start of Funds Availability for Approved Demolition Grant Recipients

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced that grant funds for the demolition of abandoned houses through the Moving Ohio Forward Program are now available for approved grant recipients. After applications or requests for extensions were received from all 88 Ohio counties, the initial grant contracts were sent to approved counties starting today.

Attorney General DeWine Announces Two More Telemarketing Scammers in Custody; Two Remain At Large

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced that two more members of a multi-state telemarketing ring, including its alleged ringleader, have been taken into custody by authorities in Ohio and Florida. Only two of the 18 indicted suspects remain at large.

Program to Collect Repayments from Unemployment Compensation Fraud

Today, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) and Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced they will be cracking down on Ohioans who fraudulently receive unemployment benefits by withholding the federal income tax refunds of those who fail to repay what they owe.

Attorney General, Department of Health, and Drug Free Action Alliance Announce Prescription Drug Drop Box Program

The Attorney General’s Office is partnering with the Ohio Department of Health and the Drug Free Action Alliance to invite southern Ohio’s law enforcement agencies to participate in the newly established Ohio Prescription Drug Drop Box Program. The program will provide approximately 75 drop boxes to collect prescription drugs and three incinerators to destroy them.

Attorney General DeWine Urges Ohioans to Check Computers for Possible Infection from International Fraud Scheme

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) -- Attorney General Mike DeWine today warned Ohioans that if their computers are infected with a certain kind of malware, they may not be able to connect to the Internet as of July 9, 2012. Temporary servers, set up to give those with computers infected in an international "click-fraud" scheme time to repair their systems, are scheduled to be turned off on Monday.

"These servers have been running for several months but are set to shut down soon," said Attorney General DeWine. "Please check your computer to see if you were affected by this international scam."
