Attorney General DeWine Issues Statement on Internet Cafe Indictments

4/19/2013

(CLEVELAND)—Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine issued the following statement after a Cuyahoga County Grand Jury indicted 11 people and eight companies, including VS2 Worldwide Communications, on charges related to illegal gambling and money laundering at internet cafes in Cuyahoga County:

"I applaud the work of Prosecutor McGinty and the many state and local law enforcement officials, including BCI, which led to these important indictments," said Attorney General DeWine. "This 136 count indictment shows that if you believe you can operate a gambling house in Ohio simply by calling it a 'sweepstakes,' you are sorely mistaken. Any illegal gambling and money laundering at these and similar establishments will be investigated and will be prosecuted."

DeWine's Internet Gaming Advisory Unit within his office can help local law enforcement and prosecutors' offices with staff experts in investigating and prosecuting internet sweepstakes cases. Officials seeking assistance can call 1-855-BCI-OHIO.
