Statement from AG Yost on U.S. Supreme Court Ruling

6/27/2025

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Trump v. CASA:

“The Supreme Court has made clear that Congress has not authorized individual judges to supervise the duly elected president and the Executive Branch. Today’s ruling rejects the novel invention of the “universal injunction,” which, the Supreme Court explains, “was conspicuously nonexistent for most of our Nation’s history.”

“Democratically enacted laws cannot be put on hold by judges who think they are kings. Americans’ freedom depends on each part of the government staying in its lane. Legislatures make laws, executive officials enforce them, and courts resolve cases. The power of a court is only the power to offer relief equal to the injury proved by those parties.”
