Attorney General DeWine Announces 12-Count Indictment of Former Police Sergeant

7/18/2013

(YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio) -- Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced that a Mahoning County Grand Jury has indicted a former sergeant with the Youngstown Police Department on twelve charges following an investigation by the Attorney General's Crimes Against Children (CAC) Unit in June.

Members of the grand jury indicted Robert Lodwick on the following charges this morning:

  • Importuning, two counts
  • Pandering Sexually Oriented Material Involving a Minor, one count
  • Attempted Pandering Sexually Oriented Material Involving a Minor, one count
  • Illegal Use of a Minor in Nudity Oriented Material or Performance, eight counts

"This individual was in a position of trust, and our investigation found that he took advantage of his role to prey on a child," said Attorney General DeWine.

Investigators with the CAC Unit, which is a division of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), began investigating Lodwick at the request of the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office.   The charges stem from an incident involving a 14-year-old female victim.

Lodwick has since been terminated from his position with the Youngstown Police Department.

Prosecutors with the Attorney General's Special Prosecutions Section are prosecuting the case.
