Several resources and organizations exist for families of missing persons and individuals seeking to help raise awareness of missing person cases. These resources include information from BCI’s Missing Person Unit, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUS), which is administered by the federal Department of Justice.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office, along with other state and national organizations, offers a variety of training to law enforcement officers on the topic of missing persons. The Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) addresses the topic through its basic training curriculum and refreshes officers through roll-call supplemental training.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Alzheimer’s Association provide educational materials for parents and caregivers on the topics of child safety and for those with autism, Alzheimer’s or dementia.
