Criminal Intelligence Unit

The Criminal Intelligence Unit uses powerful tools and analysis to expose criminal activity throughout Ohio and to identify and predict patterns. The unit’s work serves as a “force multiplier,” enhancing the likelihood that major crimes are solved.

Among other duties, CI analysts:

  • Provide analysis of digital forensics, cellphone records, geolocational resources, social-media posts, genetic family links, and more.
  • Create case timelines, databases of case-relevant evidence and people, and visual aids (crime scene maps, facial reconstructions, etc).
  • Operate the Ohio Missing Persons database and Project LINK to help locate missing persons.
  • Operate the Ohio Unsolved Homicides database and the Unidentified Remains database.
  • Help draw media attention to cases to generate new tips and information.
