Scientific Committee on Opioid Prevention & Education (SCOPE)

Ohio is being pounded by the opioid crisis. In 2018, the latest year for which data is available, there were 3,764 overdose deaths in the state. “Think of it like an underground water main break,” Attorney General Dave Yost said. “We’ve been sandbagging the flooding, but we need to shift our focus to shutting off the water.”

To that end, Attorney General Yost has launched the Scientific Committee on Opioid Prevention & Education (SCOPE), a science-based push to reduce the number of people who succumb to substance use disorder. Experts from fields including medicine, behavioral economics and data analysis will work together to provide innovative prevention strategies that will, in effect, help shut off the flood.
