Advisories about the latest scams

As the American population ages, older adults are becoming a growing target for scam artists. Many state and federal agencies issue advisories warning of scams that are making the rounds, many of which target older adults:

• 'Grandparent' scams get more sophisticated
• Ohio Department of Taxation warns of new text message scam, including website impersonation
• DEA impersonation scam
• FBI warns of  “phantom hacker” scam

What scams might look like

The ways in which bad actors try to take advantage of unwitting senior citizens are always evolving. When elder abuse and scams go unnoticed or unreported, the pain inflicted only grows, emboldening scammers and abusers to harm others.
