Second Quarter Concealed Carry Statistics Released

8/8/2013

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today released concealed carry license statistics for the second quarter of 2013 reporting 48,032 concealed carry licenses were issued.

Numbers reported to the Attorney General's Office from county sheriffs in Ohio state that in the second quarter of 2013 (April 1 through June 30), 32,074 new licenses and 15,958 renewal licenses were issued, for a total of 48,032 licenses.  This is an increase over the first quarter of 2013 when county sheriffs issued 31,407 new licenses and 6,354 renewal licenses, or 37,761 total licenses.

In the first six months of 2013, 63,481 new licenses were issued.  In 2012 a total of 64,650 new licenses were issued. With the exception of 2012, the 63,481 new licenses issued in the first six months of 2013 were more than in any single calendar year since concealed carry permits began being issued in 2004.

The Attorney General's Office compiles an annual report as required by law about the number of licenses issued each year. Each sheriff must report concealed handgun license statistics quarterly to the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission within the Ohio Attorney General's Office. Those quarterly statistics are published on the Ohio Attorney General's website once compiled and verified.
