Attorney General DeWine Appoints Eric Murphy as State Solicitor

8/28/2013

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced that he has named Eric Murphy as State Solicitor for the Ohio Attorney General's Office.

“Eric Murphy is an outstanding attorney, and his experience working in the U.S. Supreme Court and in private practice has prepared him well to handle the state’s most important appeals,” Attorney General DeWine said.

Murphy joins the Attorney General’s Office after serving as an associate with Jones Day in Columbus. Murphy served as a law clerk to Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy at the United States Supreme Court, and he also clerked for Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Murphy graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Miami University in 2001, and he graduated with high honors from the University of Chicago Law School in 2005. Murphy also currently serves as President of the Columbus Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society.

The State Solicitor works on the state’s major appeals, such as cases in the U.S. Supreme Court, the Ohio Supreme Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Murphy will start at the Ohio Attorney General’s Office on September 9, 2013.
