Charitable Registration

We are currently unavailable to answer registration questions by phone due to COVID-19. We are still responding to emails sent to  CharitableRegistration@OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov.

The Ohio Attorney General's Charitable Law Section has created a new website to better assist Ohioans; the new homepage can be found at https://Charitable.OhioAGO.gov. As we transition to the new website, some older links may no longer be available. We appreciate your patience as we move forward to help charities thrive and promote safe giving.

Ohio requires charitable organizations located in Ohio and groups that ask Ohioans for contributions to file annual reports with the Attorney General’s Office. These filings are public and contribute to accountability and transparency within the charitable sector.

Please note: this document may not be used as a substitute for filing an annual report online.

Charitable Online Registration

Groups are required to use the online system to fulfill their duties under the Charitable Trust Act (ORC 109.23) and the Charitable Solicitations Act (ORC 1716.02). Multiple individuals from each organization are encouraged to create accounts in order to receive reminders on filing deadlines, confirmation of filings, and other important information.

The public can now search our database for information on whether groups are in compliance with Ohio's registration laws and get basic information on registered organizations. For additional information on nonprofits, search www.GuideStar.org for financial documents filed annually with the IRS.
