(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray this week joined 11 other state attorneys general in support of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) proposal to make food labels more meaningful to consumers.
In a joint letter to the FDA, the attorneys general cite a recent multi-state investigation into the popular “Smart Choices” program that revealed that some products labeled by the program as a “healthy” choice actually had large amounts of not-so-healthy ingredients.

(IRONTON, Ohio) — An Ironton man pleaded guilty today to charges of aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, aggravated arson, child endangering and domestic violence in connection with the death of his estranged wife in June 2009.
Thomas Wilcox, 39, was immediately sentenced by Lawrence County Court of Common Pleas Judge Charles Cooper to life in prison without the possibility of parole. With his guilty plea, Wilcox avoids a possible death sentence.

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Federal grant scams are sweeping through Ohio, Attorney General Richard Cordray warned today.
“Since early June, my office has received more than a dozen reports of Ohioans who were targeted by scammers posing as grant officers,” Cordray said. “Many of the calls appear to originate in the 202 area code. This creates an illusion of legitimacy because 202 is a Washington D.C. area code.”

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — The aggravated murder conviction and death sentence of a former Cleveland-area man who shot and killed his wife and brother-in-law in the old Cuyahoga County Courthouse in 1992 will stand, following a decision today from the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in Cincinnati.

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — In the year since Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray launched a new program to help small businesses and nonprofits recover dollars lost to deceptive business practices and scammers, more than 1,250 small businesses have sought assistance, resulting in the recovery or savings of more than $115,000.

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – A ruling handed down today by the Ohio Supreme Court addresses the issue of stopping the statute of limitations in cases where the defendant is on the run. Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray welcomed the ruling in this criminal case, State of Ohio v. Larry Bess. Cordray filed an amicus brief in the case last December, in support of the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — In the continued fight to keep Asian Carp out of the Great Lakes, Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray today joined attorneys general from Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Pennsylvania in a lawsuit that seeks to construct a permanent physical barrier between Lake Michigan and the Mississippi River basins.

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray today announced that 200 local law enforcement agencies across the state will receive $4.2 million in funding for drug use prevention programs, the highest amount of funding for annual grants in the history of the Attorney General’s Drug Use Prevention Grant.
