On Halloween, contacts could be scarier than costumes

Halloween is about dressing up in the most convincing costume possible and having a good time. What many do not realize is making a costume convincing can be hazardous to the well being of your eyes.

Around Halloween, there is a rise in the sales of decorative and color non-corrective contact lenses, as people dressing up try go the extra mile to make that witch or zombie costume as convincing as possible. But, unless you buy decorative contact lenses with a written prescription, not only is the transaction illegal, but the lenses can lead to eye infections, scarring and even blindness.

How to help those trapped by domestic violence

Domestic Violence is a pattern of violent and coercive behavior, including physical, sexual and psychological attacks, that adults or adolescents use against their intimate partners.

We often ask ourselves why people in violent relationships stay with their partners. There could be any number of answers, including their love for the partner, fear of the unknown, a perceived lack of options or simply the toll that years of abuse can take on someone’s self-esteem.

Scammers go phishing for your identity

In light of National Protect Your Identity Week, Attorney General Richard Cordray warned Ohioans to be wary of e-mail scams soliciting personal information such as account numbers, passwords and Social Security numbers. These scam e-mails, commonly known as “phishing,” often are cleverly designed so that they appear to be from a legitimate company such as a bank or online payment service, or a government agency such as the IRS.
