About elder abuse in Ohio

Elder abuse is a devastating reality for many older Americans, but unfortunately it too often goes unreported. The debilitating results of elder abuse range from physical injury, pain, mental anguish, financial loss, violation of rights, to death. Elder abuse crosses all racial, ethnic, economic and religious backgrounds and reaches families in every Ohio community.

Our work

Attorney General Mike DeWine is committed to protecting older Ohioans who are being exploited or harmed by working closely with local law enforcement and social service agencies to prosecute and prevent crimes against the elderly. The office also offers a number of services for elder adults.

Protecting seniors

In 2009, the Attorney General’s Elder Abuse Commission was established to improve education efforts, boost research and raise awareness. The Commission will provide a forum for improving elder justice throughout the state in addition to identifying funding, programming needs and finding solutions.
