DeWine, 12 Other Attorneys General Call for Broader Religious Exceptions to the Obamacare Mandate Violating Religious Liberty

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today joined attorneys general from 12 other states in urging the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to adopt broader religious exceptions to the HHS mandate that many businesses and non-profit organizations purchase specified insurance products even when it violates their sincerely-held religious beliefs. The attorneys general voiced their concerns in a letter sent today to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

BCI Invites Public Comment During Accreditation Assessment

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) will undergo a four-day, on-site evaluation to ensure compliance with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies' (CALEA) accreditation standards. A team of CALEA assessors will conduct an on-site assessment at BCI from April 9-12, 2013. This assessment includes a dedicated public call-in session.

Attorney General Announces Raids of Three More Businesses Selling Synthetic Drugs

io Attorney General Mike DeWine today reminded business owners that they will face serious criminal and civil penalties if caught selling synthetic drugs. 
 
The warning came today as agents with the Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) assisted deputies with the Belmont County Sheriff's Office in serving four search warrants related to the sale of synthetic cannabinoids, which are also known as synthetic marijuana or herbal incense.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and the general public are invited to offer comments regarding OPOTA by telephone.
