Principal Protection Level I
This course will cover personal protection for principals/ dignitaries and executives. Students will conduct threat assessments and develop an operational plan for the movement of principals (including advance and route planning). Information will include: ambush-counter techniques, bomb searches, and protective formations in both pedestrian and vehicular movements. A portion of the material will be presented from the viewpoint of the protection team. This will assist the student-officer should he/she have to function in the role of dignitary/principal protector, as well as improve the relationship between law enforcement officers and protection personnel during visits of dignitaries with protection teams. Students will use simulators and be placed behind the wheel of OPOTA provided vehicles for techniques such as “J Turns”, “Bootleg Turns”, “Vehicle Cross Blocks” and “Offensive Escape Ramming”. Late night exercises may be scheduled at any time.
Note: It is highly recommended that students be in good physical condition for attendance.
Equipment required: Helmets will be provided, but students may bring a DOT certified helmet of their own if desired. Eye protection will also be needed. Students should bring comfortable tactical clothing and business attire along with holster gear for each. All students must bring a current driver’s/operator’s license. Shoes or boots which lace and completely cover the entire foot are mandatory. Students will not be permitted to drive with sandal type footwear.
