Public Safety Telecommunicator 1
This course addresses the basic function of the public safety telecommunicator. All public Safety services are addressed including law enforcement, fire, EMS, and combined center operations. Specific call guidelines are reviewed. Also addressed is the emerging field to telematics (the use of cellular and satellite technology in the automotive industry). Current employees may receive continuing education credit. New hires can be trained and valuable APCO Institute International Certification may be obtained. This course meets standards for telecommunicator training in several states. Topics include roles and responsibilities, interpersonal communication, technology, stress management, call classification, telephone communication techniques, radio communication techniques, legal suspects, and telematics. This course qualifies for three credit hours towards a degree in public safety communications from APCO Virtual College. This course is compliant with House Bill 361.
