Firearms Instructor: The Big Three
To keep up with the modern trends in Law Enforcement, OPOTA is now offering a two week instructor course on the three major platforms of firearms prevalent in most agencies. This will include the Semi-Automatic Pistol, Shotgun, and Police Rifle Carbine. This two week course will thoroughly cover fundamentals of shooting on all three weapons systems, range issues, range management, safety consideration, motivation of department personnel, correction of shooter error, and instructor concepts. This Course satisfies part of the OPOTC requirements for an in-service requalification and / or Peace Officer Basic Training Firearms Instructor.
Note: This is NOT a beginners course and is physically demanding. Students must have a solid working knowledge of all three weapons systems, and must pass the qualification course for each respective platform. Those unable to pass after two attempts will not be permitted to continue in the course. Extended hours will be required during some of the training to cover low-light shooting.
Equipment required: Semi-Automatic Pistol, duty belt with holster, 3 magazines, 1,000 rounds of pistol ammunition. AR15 / M16 variant type rifle, 3 magazines, sling, and 1,000 rounds of ammunition. Shotgun with sling, 100 slug rounds, 250 buckshot rounds, and 250 birdshot rounds. Soft body armor, and appropriate range attire.
