SUV Sports Utility Vehicle Operations
This three-day course is designed to provide the student with the skills necessary to operate sport utility vehicles. Liability issues and other relevant topics will be discussed in a classroom setting. There is extensive practical application of driving techniques to enable the student to operate high center gravity vehicles during patrol. Student may be taught by student instructors under supervision. This course is designed to meet basic academy curriculum requirements with high center gravity vehicles.
Note: Students will be outside on the driving course regardless of the weather. Foul weather and hot weather clothing is recommended. Night exercises are possible. Students should bring and plan to use their own departmental SUV for course exercises. No personal vehicles will be used. All students must bring a current driver’s/operator’s license. Shoes or boots which lace and completely cover the entire foot are mandatory. Students will not be permitted to drive with sandal-type footwear.
