Job Task Analysis (JTA)

Information about the JTA

The obligation to provide for the public’s safety is something the Attorney General and the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission take very seriously. An important part of that responsibility is a shared interest in ensuring that Ohio law enforcement receive proper training.

A formal Job Task Analysis (JTA) was required to ensure that the curriculum for Ohio’s Peace Officer Basic Training (POBT) program is up to date and effective. This will help to modernize and validate POBT lesson plans in a manner that will utilize current best practices and meet proven academic and scientific national standards.

The JTA, conducted in May 2011, will provide the foundation used to develop a fully revamped and relevant set of Student Performance Objectives. The POBT curriculum will then reflect what a new peace officer needs to know when transitioning out of the academy and onto the street.

Several law enforcement agencies were selected to represent the Ohio law enforcement community by completing the online JTA assessment. The input of those selected was critical as it played a direct and immediate role in developing requirements for the new POBT curriculum. The JTA was a chance for participants to have a voice in how peace officer training will be conducted in Ohio for years to come.

A thank you to the participants

Sincere thanks to all who participated in the 2011 questionnaire. Your responses will help us to develop a more effective and legally defensible curriculum for Peace Officer Basic Training (POBT) and enable us to properly modernize and validate lesson plans based upon your actual needs in the field. On behalf of the Attorney General and the citizens of Ohio, thank you.
