Starting in July, the Ohio Attorney General’s office will expand its online resources on board governance to include monthly board governance webinars.
The first webinar will be held on July 7th at noon, and the subsequent monthly webinars will be held on the first Wednesday of each month. Staff from the Ohio Attorney General’s charitable law section will host the training on board governance matters.
In order to participate, you will need:
The training will address board issues while participants watch the presentation online and listen by phone. Participants will also be able to ask or e-mail questions during the training.
“Charities make such a significant contribution to the quality of life in our state. We want to help good people do good things the right way,” said Pete Thomas, chief of the Ohio Attorney General’s Charitable Law Section. “We hope that the webinars are just another tool that might help some people better understand the critical role they play in our communities. In addition to leadership issues, board members must pay attention to protect their cause against fraud and to make certain the organization operates effectively.”
These webinars will be offered monthly until the end of 2010, when the project will be assessed. If there is interest in this type of training approach, additional topics or dates may be offered.
In-person training is also available throughout the state on occasion. While it is not feasible to offer board training to just one organization, we welcome invitations to provide training at events where multiple organizations could participate.
