(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray announced today his appointment of John Moliterno, Roger Wise and Anthony Peto to the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel Governing Board. Moliterno, Wise and Peto’s appointments were approved this week by the Ohio Senate. Moliterno and Wise are being reappointed to new three-year terms on the Board, while Peto will serve his first term.
John Moliterno was first appointed to the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel Governing Board in 2003 to represent residential consumers. Moliterno currently serves as the Board’s vice chairman. Moliterno also serves as the treasurer of the City of Girard and has previously served as president and CEO of the Youngstown/Warren regional Chamber of Commerce.
Roger Wise was first appointed to the Board in 2006 to represent family farmers. Wise currently serves as president of the Ohio Farmers Union.
Anthony Peto has been appointed to represent organized labor on the Governing Board. Peto currently serves on the Ohio Vicinity Regional Council of Carpenters.
“These appointees each bring distinct leadership experience and knowledge that will ensure Ohio consumers are given a strong voice,” said Attorney General Cordray.
Attorney General Cordray’s first appointee to the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel Governing Board earlier this year was Karen “Dee” Osterfeld. Osterfeld’s appointment was approved by the Senate in June.
The role of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel is to advocate for stronger consumer protections in court proceedings before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. It also monitors utility companies’ compliance with regulation standards and promotes consumer education. Janine Migden-Ostrander has served as Ohio Consumers’ Counsel since 2004. The Consumers’ Counsel is selected by the nine-member bipartisan Governing Board. Members of the Board are appointed to three-year terms by the Attorney General. The Ohio Revised Code provides for board members to receive limited compensation for meetings and expenses related to their service.
