Attorney General DeWine Meets with Prescription Drug Abuse Advisory Council to Work on Prevention and Policy Solutions

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — Attorney General Mike DeWine met today with the Ohio Attorney General's Prescription Drug Abuse Advisory Council.  The group will advise the Attorney General on prevention strategies and policy solutions, provide a forum to examine Ohio's efforts to combat the problem of prescription drug abuse, and identify and develop working relationships.

"Prescription drug abuse is not a problem in just one Ohio county," said Attorney General DeWine. "It's a problem in every corner of every county in Ohio. And while we are making progress in the fight against it, we continue to seek expert advice from those out in the field for the latest solutions. That's what we hope to find with the Prescription Drug Abuse Advisory Council."

Columbus Steel Castings Pleads Guilty to Violating Clean Air Act

Columbus Steel Castings Company, Inc. located on the south side of Columbus pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to a six-count information charging them with violating the Clean Air Act. The violations include failing to operate air pollution controls, failing to report violations, failing to perform required monitoring, and failing to conduct stack testing to demonstrate compliance with the Clean Air Act.

Justice Department Awards Ohio Attorney General's Office $4.5 million for Crime Victims' Compensation

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) -- Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today that the Office of Justice Programs of the U.S. Department of Justice has awarded the state's Crime Victim Compensation Fund, administered through the Office's Crime Victim Section, a grant of $4,528,000.

Senior Assistant Attorney General Aaron Haslam is Named Special Assistant U.S. Attorney to Help Try Federal Prescription Drug Cases

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced that Aaron E. Haslam, Co-Coordinator of the Ohio Attorney General's Special Prosecutions Unit, was sworn in today as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney (SAUSA) in the Southern District of Ohio in the United States Attorney's Office.

Ohio Attorney General DeWine Distributes Funds to Pediatric Hospice Care Program

(POLAND, Ohio) -- Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today delivered a check for $19,036 to the Pediatric Hospice Care Program of the Humility of Mary's Hospice of the Valley in Poland, Ohio.

"We are happy to provide these funds to the Pediatric Hospice Care Program," said Attorney General DeWine. "The assistance provided there is an inspiring example of compassionate care given to those in need."

Attorney General DeWine, Greene County Prosecutor Haller Announce Criminal Indictments in Consumer Protection Case

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen K. Haller announced today the indictment of three individuals for engaging in a tree-trimming theft operation that targeted elderly victims in Greene, Butler, Franklin, and Montgomery Counties. The indictments were the result of a collaborative effort of the Attorney General, the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney, and other law enforcement agencies.

Today's announcement is the latest development in a statewide effort to increase the number of consumer protection cases tried criminally.

Statement by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine Regarding Bath Salts and the Signing of HB 64

"I applaud Governor Kasich and the Ohio General Assembly on today's signing of House Bill 64 which will help protect Ohio families by making bath salts and other designer drugs illegal.

"These drugs have devastating effects on those who use them, and can put local law enforcement in danger as well when people are under their influence.

Northeast Ohio Foreclosure Rescue Company Sued for Consumer Law Violations

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced a lawsuit against foreclosure rescue company Diversified Real Estate Consultants LLC (DREC), its affiliates, and its owner for multiple violations of Ohio consumer laws.

"This company continually misled consumers," Attorney General DeWine said. "It charged substantial upfront fees for services and results that it promised but never delivered. It also encouraged homeowners to default on their mortgage loans, falsely stating that defaulting on their loans would help them get a loan modification. Such statements are completely false and caused homeowners to risk losing their homes."
